The novel 'Ek Chihan' (2017-2067) written by Hridayachandra Singh Pradhan (1972-2016) focuses on a peasant family in Kathmandu. Ashtanaran's family consists of his wife Latmaya, his three sons Shivnaran, Punnaran and Harshanaran and daughter Nanithaku. The novel begins with Ashtanaran's illness, followed by Ashtanaran's death, the relationship between Nanithakun and Dr. Godatta Prasad, Surman Subba's conspiracy to marry Nanithakun, the marriage between Harshanaran and Putali Tamang, and Nanithakun and Ramkhelavan. This novel depicts the suffering of poor people. The main purpose of this novel seems to be to make people realize the importance of labor.
